Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Your Costa Rica Fishing Trip

How long are the fishing trips?

We offer half day (4–5 hours), ¾-day (6–7 hours), and full day (8–10 hours) charters depending on your schedule and goals.

What’s the difference between inshore and offshore fishing?

  • Inshore trips stay close to shore (within 5–10 miles) targeting species like roosterfish, snapper, and jacks.
  • Offshore trips go deeper (15–40 miles out) to catch marlin, sailfish, tuna, and dorado.

How many people can join a charter?

Most boats accommodate up to 4–6 guests, but we also offer larger vessels for private groups, families, or corporate outings.

Do I need fishing experience?

No! Beginners are welcome. Our bilingual crew provides hands-on guidance throughout the trip.

What fish can I catch in Costa Rica?

Depending on the season and trip type, you can catch:

  • Marlin (blue, black, striped)
  • Sailfish
  • Yellowfin Tuna
  • Mahi-Mahi (Dorado)
  • Roosterfish, Snapper, Wahoo, and more.

When is the best time to fish in Costa Rica?

  • Sailfish & Marlin: December to April
  • Tuna & Dorado: May to October
  • Roosterfish & Snapper: Available year-round

What should I bring on the boat?

We recommend:

  • Sunscreen (reef-safe)
  • Hat & polarized sunglasses
  • Light clothing
  • Waterproof phone case or camera
  • Motion sickness meds (if needed)
  • We provide all gear, bait, snacks, drinks, and fishing licenses.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Yes, edible species like tuna and mahi-mahi can be kept and cleaned for you. Billfish (marlin, sailfish) are strictly catch and release, per Costa Rica law.

Are charters kid-friendly?

Yes! Inshore and half-day trips are great for families. We prioritize safety and make it fun for kids.

Is it safe to go fishing offshore?

Absolutely. Our boats are equipped with GPS, VHF radios, life jackets, and safety gear. Captains are licensed and highly experienced.

What if the weather is bad?

We monitor conditions daily. If the captain determines it's unsafe, we'll reschedule or offer a refund.

How do I book a trip?

You can book online, submit a contact form, or call us directly. We recommend reserving early during peak season (Dec–April).

What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made 7 days in advance receive a full refund. Less than 7 days may incur a fee unless due to weather or emergencies.
